Even after much discussion of wizards and warlocks, Orion insisted on being a witch for Halloween. :)I made his pants out of a silly black "velvet" that had stripes of sequins. His tunic is some crazy silver fabric that the needles could only barely penetrate, and his red sash (complete with gold hearts to show off that he is a "good witch") was supposed to be the lining to a red wool skirt that I never made. Not bad for an afternoon of sewing! His cape was made by mom back when my cousin was little (he is now 16 and nearly 6' tall!). And the hat was actually a left over from Papa's costume last year! The wand was made at a Waldorf Harvest Faire that we attended in mid-October. The photo doesn't show it well, but there is a crystal on the tip of the wand!

Trick or treating was a big hit, and by the end of the evening, even after he'd worn out his feet and asked to be carried home by Papa, he still got brave and went to the last few houses all by himself, sweetly asking with each step if we could still see him. As if. As if I would let my firstborn out of my sight when he's walking to a stranger's door dressed head to toe in black (oops. better luck next year on that front.).

As he walked from each house, holding the newest candy in his hand, he would sniff it and then hold it up to us, asking if it was choc-yit or not. All the choc-yit got put straight in the stroller and wasn't even allowed in his little bucket, lest it somehow infect the other candy. When we got home, he chose about 5 pieces of candy that he would eat and all the rest got offered to the Halloween Fairy in hopes of a very cool toy. And she delivered. He woke up outrageously early, played with his new toy (a Bilibo), had some breakfast and polished off the remainder of his candy. And then we were done. Papa's birthday is Nov. 1st and we had some friends over to celebrate. Once the kiddos were put to bed, the grown ups ate all the remaining candy.
