I'm writing to share with you that I just called my congressman's office. A super friendly voice answered the phone. I said, "Hello, my name is Sally. I am a constituent in Hillsboro. I am calling to ask Congressman Wu to work hard to reform health insurance so it is available to everyone." The friendly voice said, "Ok, thank you for calling." And then I hung up.
That just took like a whole 30 seconds of my life. It's taking longer to write about it here.
For all of you who think that health insurance should be reformed, who think that children deserve good health care, who think parents shouldn't ever have to choose between medical care for themselves or their family and putting food on the table, who think our current system is failing, please, please take those thirty seconds and call your congressional representative. They only represent US when they know what WE want.
If you don't have your Representative on your speed dial, click here to Find your Representative. Type in your zip code. It will give you the name and phone number of your representative.
For all you peeps in the Portland/Hillsboro/Forest Grove area, it's
David Wu.

And for those who remember, it used to be my job to ANSWER those phone calls. In high school I volunteered for Congressman Peter DeFazio. My job was to answer the phone when constituents called. I had a special pad of paper and I filled in the blanks with the concern/complaint/request for consideration that the caller wanted relayed to the congressman. It was an awesome job. His phone number is still 541-465-6732.
You could be calling now. The phone could be ringing in their office while you surf to the next website that you're headed to.
